Professor Merab Dvali
Merab Dvali is an ophthalmologist with nearly half a century of clinical, scientific, and academic experience. His name is closely associated with the wide introduction of ocular microsurgery in Georgia, for which he was awarded the State Prize in Science in 2002.
For his successful ophthalmologic work in the People’s Republic of China between 1992–1993, Professor Merab Dvali was awarded the International Order of Friendship of Peoples.
Professor Dvali is also recognized for introducing numerous innovative treatment methods in Georgia and for educating multiple generations of ophthalmologists.

In 1975, Professor Merab Dvali became the first Georgian ophthalmologist to perform cataract phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation.

In 1999, he founded the first Excimer Laser Center in the Transcaucasian region.
